Electricity & Power Iraq
Electrical energy is a vital sector in Iraq that requires much investment, restoration, and development. For this reason, Electricity and Power Iraq will be held concurrently with Project Iraq – Baghdad, bringing together international industry experts and local stakeholders to explore potential partnerships and investments.
The electricity sector in Iraq presents many attractive investment opportunities to local and foreign investors. The government has ambitious plans to raise the sector's capacity through motivating investments from the private sector in the fields of building, operating, and supplying.
- Siemens has signed multi-million-dollar service contracts for the maintenance and upgrade of seven power generating units in four power plants, located in South Basra, Salah El Deen, Middle Region, and Middle Euphrates.
- UK Export Finance (UKEF) has approved $117 million in financing for an Enka UK and General Electric consortium to deliver two critical power projects in Iraq.
- 18 memorandums of understanding have been signed between Saudi and Iraqi companies in the fields of energy. The two countries will soon discuss a power-grid link initiative and investments in renewable energy and power generation projects.
- The Ministry of Electricity concluded in October, the first two contracts for the installation and operation of four photovoltaic stations producing 230 MW in the provinces of Muthanna and Najaf Ashraf.
